The Kombi at Potato Point is based on a photo I took back in 2021 at our favourite camping spot at Potato Point. We were actually leaving the camp ground this particular day, having spent several hours packing up all our gear and slipping quietly into sad mode, knowing the holiday was behind us and in front was a long drive and a mountain of washing! 
 
Just before we left, I spotted this Kombi and I just had to get a phot because I knew I wanted to paint it. I didn't realise it would take me 4 years to get to it, but I finally made it happen. I have to be honest - I labored over this painting like I did with The Kombi at Kingscliff but recently found the finishing energy required to complete it. 
 
In real life there was quite a lot going on around the van - gazebos and tents and other vans and washing hanging on the line but I opted to cut all that out and just include the ocean in the background. I wanted to focus on the simple, nostalgic beauty of the Kombi and the serenity that comes with camping. I hope I hit the mark!
