If you've ever looked out the window of a plane as you're close to take-off or landing, you'll likely understand what this painting is! Somewhere Near Kingscliff captures the view from the plane as I was flying into Coolongatta when I went to visit my mum last November. My phone tells me this is Kingscliff though I didn't set out to capture it exactly as it was in the photo, more a representation of it. 
 
I painted this piece because I wanted to do something different to my normal works, an opportunity to bring more earthy tones into my work. But I realised as I painted this that it felt similar to my pear paintings, with the geometry and patchwork feel. It always surprises me when I feel my older work influencing my new stuff. I guess it makes sense, but it is always a surprise!
